Hi just listened to your podcast. Interesting to hear the two sides: bookies and nonbookies. I’m amazed too to hear a 3 minute cap of the epi…Wow! I too always like to know who is getting recognized for the epis: Sally Campbell Produced was director Jonathan Brough ? this time I think and writers Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux. I know the premise was individual epis to run I thought independant recognition.
Anyway, some conjuring on my part. I thought the first teaser of headaches came in Fury…when Richard was caught into the magic of the Minders and Canton Rahl… I thought we had a little taste that these were going to get worse. Of course the epi was about the rage of the sword taking over too.
Kevin thank you for being like me… a fan of the series first. I have read Book 1 and toyed with picking up the next one. I guess I enjoy the adventure through Richard’s eyes. Craig Horner has done such a good job with developing the naive Richard. Bridget, Craig Parker and Bruce Spence are such great actors to spin the storylines. I haven’t felt the need to read the books. I read so many complaints from bookies, I guess I don’t even want to go there.
Everyone is going to hate me, but I don’t like the thigh design on her new outfit. Bridget is a dropdead gorgeous female and that part of the outfit does not do her justice. Otherwise I think it is someone’s interpretation of a Mother Confessor Mord Sith outfit (lol). The new eye makeup and the face make up I live better than the redish lipsticks.
I adore DENNA…Jessica Marais is such a great actress. Please Darken Rahl offer her the deal of the week and let her come back!! She is evil incarnate. when she is the nicest, quietest voice, she GETS YOU!…she is lethal. This is the one who if anyone else would tempt Richard…Denna would be the one. Cara is more like a sister I think and someone he really wants to help, but Denna…she is under his skin. DOn’t get me wrong I do not want him to go there…he is Kahlan’s.
Outstanding in the episode: Zedd and Denna — fantantic storyline and handling of the performances Richard and Sister Verna — super dialog and well done, great connection between the actors.. (you guys mentioned humor…done well this time, stay away from fakey and be real)
Friends of Denna? …. there are no friends for Mord Sith only the sisters of the agiel and that lasts only so long as everyone is following the program. Denna and Cara parted company because Denna failed to commit to Richard as the Lord Rahl. Cara does not understand she’s being redeemed by Richard so she
doesn’t even think that for Denna…Cara just takes her out, one less problem for Lord Rahl.
You guys mentioned the trace clouds being used again…”hope” signal I’m still alive from Zedd. Also the woodsguide is still showing that his basic upbringing and skills hold truth…”blind faith” ….most of all faith….Kahlan was relying on and then ruefully Richard finds the cloak works for him … difficult to believe one who hates magic as much as Richard has is the ultimate of Wizards, greater than Zedd. Two houses of magic: Rahl and Zorander I also liked the continuing of touches from the first series because I think it is that…a wonderful epic story of this guy and his love and his mission…and it continues. The other Kurt mentioned — the sword did not ring when K took it out. Did you guys mention good moment — she gave him a dagger and he used it
Disappointed: what’s with Kahlan not giving back “I love you, Richard with all my heart” …. ???? (She did say she couldn’t live without him..but speak the words – I love you Richard, PLEASE!! ” (lol sorry I do get carried away…I whine too at times.)
Didn’t like the imagery used for Richard to hold Kahlan in his heart…this guy can act…and uses his eyes well…let’s read them, don’t do the
the other, fakey, cheesy
Thanks, it’s been fun. Thanks for letting me share too. I look forward to listening to the catch-up epis and the next one.
Great podcast! This episode was a treat for the bookies, even though the events were so rushed. And like you, I loved the humor in all the scenes you mentioned.
There’s a scene with Cara looking for the pulse of Sister Elizabeth. Cara’s matter-of-fact tone when she says, “she’s dead” is one of the funniest moments.
One last observation. When Denna asked Zedd to conjure their corpses, I was expecting Zedd to use the mirror trinket that we’ve seen in season 1 episode, “Mirror”, and again in season 2, “Broken”.
Looking forward to your next podcasts!! And thank you for sharing the transcript with Jolene Blalock press conference.
derascal: I totally agree. My sister and I hate Kahlan’s new look. Not only does it make her look like a rebellious punk 17 year old, but it seems contrary to her character. The white dress symbolizes her job of “cleaning” or “purifying” the lies/sins of the Midlands. I know this new look doesn’t replace the white dress, but it doesn’t fit her nature. She wouldn’t go that dark. Her principle purpose is to protect not to kill, which is what that dress evokes. Also, it seems blatantly sexually exploitative. Blatantly. Sure, her green and white dresses had low neck lines but they had some respect behind them. Not so this dress.
Sorry. The costume change really ticked me off.
I saw the first season first, then got excited so I read books 1-3. I’ve stopped because I love the richness of the book’s plots but it clouds my ability to see that the show and the books are two different entities; i get frustrated when they leave out interesting details (such as with Darken Rahl) or don’t elaborate. It’s better I think, if you have the option, to see the show first and then read the books. Then, as a reader, you’re building on the story that you already know rather than constantly holding the story on the screen up to the books and detailing its failings.
