Absolutely fantastic podcast!!!
I’m amazed how one 1 hour of your podcast feels more like 10 minutes. Time flies when you have fun.
I found out of about “The Sword of Truth” books through “Legend of the Seeker” and I’m completely in love with the books. I’m at my 5th read of “Wizard First Rule” (also reading “Confessor” at the same time so I don’t finish WFR too quickly). I never read any other books more than once if that’s any indication. Even though I think the books are exceptional, I agree with you that the show is very, very well done. I got goose bumps when you mentioned the scene with Richard at the end of the battle in “Destiny”. So beautiful!
I want to make a shameless plug for the most “under-marketed” soundtrack in history: Joe LoDuca won his Emmy for “Prophecy” & “Destiny”, and for me “Legend of the Seeker” wouldn’t be the same without LoDuca’s music, so yay for Joe for giving us such an epic score!
Hey guys, I really enjoyed the podcast about Prophecy and Destiny. Since we have went through the second season with Seeker, it really makes the themes jump from the first season.
I loved the symbolism, of burning the Book of Counted Shadows and the varying from the books.
My first love will always be the books, but the shows have a richness all their own. Once you get past they are not following the books, you notice that they still follow the values and cares that the books have.
I’ve been a book fan for years and I knew there would be changes once it became a show. My trick for separating the show from the books? I view the show characters differently from their book counterparts though it wasn’t easy at first. I don’t have a concrete vision of Richard and Kahlan from the books but the show still doesn’t capture them in my mind. Show Kahlan (my favorite from the books) comes close and I grew quite attached to her from the beginning. She’s practically the main reason I gave the show a chance. Then on episode 5 (Listener), I had a surprising gut reaction to a change in her background. Anger towards a show is very rare for me. So at that point I really had to separate the books and show because nitpicking would have ruined the experience since I’ve been enjoying the show so far. And I’m glad I did because the series is the best sword and sorcery show I’ve seen.
Appreciating the book as I read along and noticing the differences, but on the other hand, noticing the essence is carried throughout in the series. The series will be for me the main draw. I fell for Richard the woodguide and Kahlan the “do-or-die” confessor staunch on her mission of prophecy. Craig is the Richard for me…I see how much he took ownership of Richard in the books including Goodkind’s battle posture for Richard leaping into the air. The sensitive portrayal of Richard along with expressing Richard’s commitment of his duty to fulfill the task at hand …gives your heart anguish and pride. I remember watching both episodes for the first time and then getting the DVD set to watch them several more times. Yep, I knew this series was special to me without having seen or read a book at the time. The television series has been a breath of fresh air– unique and entertaining.
I especially liked the treatment of the Nightwisps in the episodes compared to the book. The book as I mentioned before cleared up some confusion about Michael and his agenda. To me Bridget’s Kahlan is both more vulnerable and stronger in the series than what I felt the book portrays her as so far. Zedd of the books has a richer sense of wry humor than what I see/hear in the series.
To not have another season or so of this truly unique series would be such an injustice. Each episode has been good, not necessarily all have been great. The depth of material is still a fertile field that has barely been touched.
Thank you for another super pod cast. I adore the first season to see this woodsguide grow before our eyes from earnest and eager, idealistic to wary and more cautious, a bit more jaded maturing into Richard the leader, yet keeping a bit of that Richard in Season I and especially his love of Kahlan and loyalty to family and friends.
I have found the lack of joining dots once something has been introduced in season one to either later in the season or to what is happening in season two has driven me crazy, so many rich opportunities seem to have slipped by and it frustrates me so much. Anyway, looking forward to more chapters and more episodes!! ras
