Kudos for another great podcast and for making me rewatch “Brennidon!”
See. The things you make me do?
I had forgotten many details about this episode: the beautiful landscape, the lush forest, Zedd using Wizard’s First Rule. And the light in one of the last scenes, when Bridget tells Richard she’s not really her mother. Just perfect.
It was actually nice to see a new podcast during the weekend, so we have more time to listen and geek out.
Kevin, quadruple kudos for buying already four audiobooks. Wooooot!!! We’ll have plenty of ideas for Seeker panels to propose for DragonCon next year
Although not my favorite epi what I felt when I originally watched it was that this one set the need of the Seeker to become known and more visible. The man at the cemetry is disappointed, the town feels that the risks they all took were in vain, and the potential step-brother feels the Seeker is an intrusion on the village, not the hero. So the epi allows us see the Seeker more established as the “returning” hero….but Kahlan and Zedd need to be included and they are a team. Richard trusts in humanity several times without using his logic skills: the step-brother leading him into a trap at the very beginning, believing Bridget to be his mother, and thinking he is as valued by everyone else as the Seeker as his friends value him including the lack of protection given to him by the hunters. Our hero is still growing up, still learning about himself and his responsiblities and how to use his skills. Pieces of information are doled out to keep us interested: Kahlan as a confessor, dealing with Zedd and his personal life adventures, Zedd’s secret that he is Richard’s grandfather, and Richard’s desire to find his “real” mother. As Kevin mentioned, I enjoyed Richard reciting the Wizard’s 15th Rule!! (When it’s convenient and can be used to his advantage!!) The fight scenes to show how R/K are developing as a team were good. The epi was necessary in the storytelling to fill-in and develop our Seeker team’s lives and help the plot thicken as they make their way across the Midlands.to defeat Darken Rahl…onward to the next epi…Great to hear you both, missed Kurt. Always enjoy your perspectives…often see things I don’t or in a different way. Thanks!! ras
